Welcome!

Hi, I'm Renae

and I believe every family deserves good food, even on the crazy nights!

About Renae

The Real Story Behind Mrs. G's Recipes

You know those Tuesday nights when you're exhausted, the kids need dinner, and takeout feels like giving up? I've been there. More times than I care to count.

Hi, I'm Renae Gerhardstein ("Mrs. G"), and I've been cooking for families for over 35 years. You might know me from The Feathered Nester, where I share scratch cooking recipes like sourdough bread and homemade desserts.

But here's the thing - life isn't always a scratch cooking moment.

Sometimes you need dinner in 20 minutes or you have just five ingredients in the pantry and need to make magic happen. Sometimes "good enough" IS good enough, and that's perfectly okay.

That's why Mrs. G's Recipes exists.

Why I Created Mrs. G's

For years, I felt like I was living a double life.

On Sundays, I'd lovingly knead sourdough and feel like a kitchen goddess. On Wednesdays, I'd throw together a rotisserie chicken dinner and feel like I was somehow failing.

Sound familiar?

Then I started getting emails from readers like you:

"Renae, I love your scratch recipes, but sometimes I just need dinner on the table FAST..."

"Can you share recipes for those crazy weeknight moments?"

"I want to cook for my family, but I don't always have time for homemade everything..."

And I realized something important: You need BOTH types of recipes in your life.

Some nights call for scratch cooking adventures. Other nights call for smart shortcuts that get everyone fed and happy.

Mrs. G's Recipes is for those "other nights."

35 Years of Kitchen Wisdom, Simplified

I've been cooking for families since before the internet existed (yes, really!). Over the decades, I've learned that the best meals aren't always the most complicated ones - they're the ones that bring your family together around the table.

My approach is simple:

  • No intimidating terms or chef-speak
  • Real ingredients you can find at any grocery store
  • Honest testing with real families (including my own picky eaters)
  • Practical solutions for busy life

I believe good food should be accessible, not stressful. Whether you're a confident cook or someone who burns water, these recipes will work for you.

What Mrs. G's Recipes Believes

🏠 Family First: The best meal is the one that gets your family fed and happy. Period.

⏰ Time Matters: Your time is valuable. These recipes respect that.

🛒 Simple Ingredients: Great meals don't require specialty stores or endless shopping lists.

💝 No Guilt Zone: Using shortcuts doesn't make you a bad cook or parent. It makes you smart.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Real Life: These recipes are tested in real kitchens by real families, not styled for perfection.

✨ Homemade Taste: Semi-homemade doesn't mean settling for less flavor.

How Mrs. G's is Different

Unlike other quick meal sites, we focus on:

🎯 Truly Simple: When I say 5 ingredients, I mean it. No hidden "pantry staples" that require 10 more items.

👩‍🍳 Family-Tested: Every recipe is tested by real families with real kids. If it doesn't pass the picky eater test, it doesn't make the site.

⏱️ Honest Timing: 30 minutes means 30 minutes - including prep time. No surprises.

🏆 Taste-First: Quick doesn't mean flavorless. These recipes prioritize taste while saving time.

💡 Smart Shortcuts: I'll show you how to use quality convenience items to create meals that taste completely homemade.
